Secure your computer and your network

You have put a lock on your door, you have secured your window but what about your computer. Is that secure ???

Install a firewall
You must have a firewall installed no matter what internet connection you have. Most routers have build in firewall but it is also recommended to install software firewalls like ZoneAlarm or Symantec firewall.


Secure you wireless connection
If you want access to the internet every ware in your house and don't want to wire the whole house with cables you really want a wireless network. It has become very easy and cheap to set up a wireless network. But it is not allways installed on the best and most secure way. When you get your firewall (or router with firewall) do check the settings and make sure that your connection are crypted. The most common used method are WPA.

If you do not secure your wireless connection any person can just be nearby your house and connect to YOUR internet and access YOUR files and personal information.

When you secure you network use a password that contain both letters and numbers .

Keep your firmware and driver updated.
it is also a great idea to keep the drivers on your computer updated. In windows this is easy. Just enable the auto download.

Backup your files
Today there is many ways to backup all your important files. You can get a software that can create a backup of your local files and send it to a remote location. You can also do it the old fasion way by using a cd or DVD.
